Ever wondered what these are?

jimrendall185

If you've ever visited the Humberston Fitties and walked past the RSPB lagoon towards Tetney Lock, then you will have passed several of these pillboxes. During the Second World War these lookout posts were used to spot signs of enemy invasion. Can you imagine how cold and damp it must have been for the soldiers who manned these bunkers? So what's so special about the one below? Well, this style is known as the 'Lincolnshire Three Bay'. The podium in the middle could be used to site an anti aircraft machine gun and this particular style is only found in Lincolnshire! Keep a lookout for my blog posts about walking in Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire history. #lovefitties #lincolnshirecoast
